Vellex awarded Competitive Grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, SEPT 16, 2025 - Vellex Computing has been awarded U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for $305K to conduct research and development (R&D) work on Analog Hardware Accelerator for Power Systems Feasibility Studies.

At Vellex, our mission is to empower critical machines such as data centers, electric grids, and robots to operate at peak efficiency and reliability by advancing the next generation of machine intelligence or physical AI. To achieve this, we develop a novel computing platform based on patented physics-based computing architecture specifically designed for real-time simulation and control of physical assets/critical machines. This results in advancing human progress, and a sustainable planet.

“NSF accelerates the translation of emerging technologies into transformative new products and services,” said Erwin Gianchandani, NSF Assistant Director for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships. “We take great pride in funding deep-technology startups and small businesses that will shape science and engineering results into meaningful solutions for today and tomorrow.”

“The proposed innovation drastically reduces the time required for conducting technical feasibility studies for grid interconnection,” said Palak Jain, CEO, Vellex Computing. “Unlike conventional digital computing approaches, this integrated circuit leverages a novel computing architecture to achieve 10,000 times faster simulations of complex transmission networks with inverter-based energy resources and loads. By leveraging innovations developed by our team in analog-based optimization and equivalent-circuit representations of inverter-based systems, simulations that once took days or hours can now be completed in seconds, helping energy generators, data center developers, utilities, and planners accelerate their timeline through the grid interconnection process and deploy their domestic energy resources faster, with more certainty, and with lower overall project cost.”

About Vellex Computing

Vellex is advancing AI with an Analog Intelligence platform, delivering ultra-fast and efficient computations. The platform increases compute performance per dollar by 100X. Our physics-based computing architecture delivers real-time results for complex optimization and control that take hours on traditional computers, while using only a fraction of the power.

About the U.S. NSF's Small Business Innovation Research

America’s Seed Fund powered by NSF awards more than $200 million annually to startups and small businesses, transforming scientific discovery into products and services with commercial and societal impact. Startups working across almost all areas of science and technology can receive up to $2 million to support research and development, helping de-risk technology for commercial success. America’s Seed Fund is congressionally mandated through the Small Business Innovation Research program. The NSF is an independent federal agency with a budget of about $9.5 Billion that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering.
